Review of the Sennheiser hd202 stereo headphones
The Highly-recommended Sennheiser hd202 and related Sennheiser hd203 and hd205 headphones:
Family-owned Sennheiser from Germany has been making some of the finest professional and consumer-level headphones since the 1940s, and today they are still one of the most widely used headphones in both homes and professional recording studios around the world. Indeed, as a pro studio musician and producer, many of the rooms I’ve recorded in both New York and L.A. have been outfitted with nothing but Sennheiser headphones, and I just had a pair on at a recent August recording session. They sounded crisp, clean, just great! Check out the Sennheiser hd202

The Sennheiser hd202 headphones are closed, dynamic hi-fi stereo headphones, great for DJs and powerful modern music, providing good insulation against ambient noise and a vivid, crisp bass response. The sound quality and performance of the hd202 is unexpectedly high for headphones in this price range.
Upsides:
Sennheiser has produced a highly-affordable series of their closed-cup, full dynamic range headphones, the 200 series, that are ideal for home theater listening, home recording, and for use as your main DJ headset if you are a DJ, while at the same time, being so lightweight and travelable that many people also use them for their portable iPods and MP3 players while walking or exercising at the gym. They fit the ear so comfortably that they quickly become as unnoticeable as a pair of ear buds, but with far superior sound reproduction and dynamic range.
This headphone series includes the Sennheiser hd202, hd203, and hd205. All three have superb sound for the price point, with the 203 adding slightly improved bass response, and the 205 notable for it’s fully-rotatable ear cup, making it ideal for DJs and others who like to hold just one cup to one ear while having the other ear open to ambient noise in the environment.
All three feature a comfortable yet snug enough fit to eliminate all normal ambient sounds, and even very demanding professional studio engineers agree that, while there are unquestionably better-sounding headphones available, you’d be hard pressed to find something better-sounding at this very reasonable price point.
Downsides:
The only downside I have found for these Sennheiser hd202, hd203 and hs205 series headphones is that some people with large-sized heads reported them to be just snug enough to feel a bit tight or to require taking them off for a break, after an hour or so. (I haven’t had this problem, but then, judging by my brain-power, I wouldn’t be surprised if my head was considered one of the smaller ones
However, it seems this issue is quickly resolved by wrapping the headphones over any surface wider than your head (like a wide couch arm) overnight. This helps spread the headband’s width and “breaking them in,” and if done one or two times over a few days, the extra space and comfort seem to be a permanent fix, with no snapping back to it’s original tightness.
These headphones continually garner 4 or 4.5 out of 5 stars in all major reviews, and I can’t think of a better set of headphones for the terrific price points of $25-$40 street price…I highly recommend the Sennheiser hd202, hd203, and hd205 models.
